After my father’s death in the fall of 2020, I felt the need to capture his memory and work through my emotions accompanying this major heartbreak and loss. Originally, I planned on creating a small book filled with my family's memories of my father, but it began to feel too static and past-focused. Instead I decided to consider and document the many ways I feel his memory living on in the world around me. I began by using Mod Podge to transfer photographs onto a thicker paper in order to achieve the faded visual quality of past memories. On the back of each card I wrote down short poems, quotes, and sentiments. I tried to write these from the perspective of my father. Needing someplace to house these and lacking bookbinding skills, I decided to create a small wooden box out of bass wood.
